The 2008 New Holland Publishers and the NSW Writers' Centre Genre Fiction Award.

  • This Award is a call for unpublished genre fiction manuscripts by published or unpublished writers of any age who are resident in Australia.  Genre fiction categories include crime, adventure, action/thriller, historical, family saga, chick lit, lad lit, romance, science fiction, fantasy, humour and others that might cross germinate.
  • Anybody with a novel manuscript in their bottom drawer can enter the Genre Fiction Award for a chance to be published.
  • Presented by New Holland Publishers and the NSW Writers’ Centre, this award is a fantastic opportunity for writers of genre fiction to see their work in print. 
  • First prize is publication by New Holland Publishers.  The NSW Writers' Centre is offering first prize a 10 hour manuscript development grant (valued at $740), second prize is a 15-hour manuscript development grant (valued at $1,1015) and third prize a 20 hour manuscript development grant (valued at $1,290). All short-listed entries will also be considered for publication. 
  • Entrants must be members of the NSW Writers’ Centre and are asked to initially submit a synopsis and the first three chapters of their novel. Short-listed entrants will then be asked for their full manuscript.

Inner City Life Competition 2008

  • A writing competition for adults on the theme of "Inner City Life" organised by the NSW Writers’ Centre, sponsored by Gleebooks and the Village Voice, and open to anyone from anywhere. The topic is "Inner City Life anywhere anytime”, whatever interpretation YOU give to the phrase.
  • Categories
  •    1. Short Story maximum 500 words
  •    2. Poetry maximum 20 lines
  • Prizes: first ($100 cash), second ($60 cash) and third prize ($40 cash) in both categories. Winners will also receive a Gleebooks voucher (first ($150), second ($100) and third prize ($50) in both categories and a complimentary annual membership of the NSW Writers’ Centre (value $65) or a year’s free membership (value $65) if they are already members.
