Members to consider alternate payments for future competitions, the option of Paypal was discussed and will be discussed down the track.
Numbers for annual competition as at 26 April: Borree Log - 7, Cat 1 Short story - 17, Cat 2 Free verse - 30, Cat 3 Memoir - 18, Cat 4 Pauline Walsh SS Story - 11.
Members reported people who requested the return of the traditional verse category in our annual competition. Members to consider this feedback when planning for next year's competition.
$80- was raised from book sales last meeting - books on sale again this meeting for last time.
Jan Foster will swap her workshop from November to September. CS to send reminder to members before meeting. November meeting will be reading and / or critiqueing instead.
Members are invited to the launch of Beverley George's latest book, The Preposterous Frog, at the Pearl Beach Community Hall at 2pm on Sunday 6 June. |

Carolyn Alfonzetti 2 tanka short-listed in Take Five: Best Contemporary Tanka, Vol 2. Janette Whitehead Novel, Allegra Fairweather: Paranormal Investigator, to be published digitally by Carina Press in June 2010. It's a fun mystery featuring a paranormal investigator and her gorgeous guardian angel sidekick. |

Cynthia Rowe: Writing for young adults. Cynthia presented an entertaining and informative introduction to writing for young adults, the importance of character, the importance of not preaching, and using attention to detail - food, clothes, etc. |

Monthly members' assignment |
The assignment is to write an extract from a story for young adults, up to 1,000 words. Story can be complete or incomplete. The story is about a main character, Janie, 17 whose best friend is Rita. In the story, describe Janie's bedroom, her family, her relationship with her parents, favourite foods, and appearance. Consider the following factors: Does she have a pet? How does she relate to her siblings and peer group? Does she have a job? A boyfriend? Assignments will be marked by a randomly selected member from those who do not put in an entry! |

Workshop

David Terelinck conducted a workshop entitled: Something Smells Funny: Humorous, irreverent and rib-tickling writing. The workshop delivered on its name, was entertaining and all members joined in the exercises amidst lots of laughter. David provided a comprehensive handout that will be a valuable resource for members. |
