A little about the John Kelly Award for Eastwood/Hills FAW members

John Kelly was an active member of the Eastwood/Hills Regional for many years before his death in 2003. Born in Ireland, he had a great love of oral and written folklore. He was a gifted storyteller, who was always ready to entertain with one of his humourous tales.

The John Kelly Award is open to all financial members of the Eastwood/Hills regional FAW.

The Award is for an original myth, folk or fairy tale to a maximum of 1,500 words. Entries are to be handed in at the April meeting each year.

The Award carries a $50 first prize and a perpetual trophy for 12 months.

 The winner of the 2008 award was David Terelinck for his story Eurethra's Quest. The judge's comments are as follows: "This is a cheeky, entertaining tale. You use the word count to give a great portrait of your "heroine" between the introduction and the climax/ending. It is a great yarn."
